The publication is a result of field research conducted in the framework of the Baba Elka Project (2018-2021). It is a selection of heirloom recipes collected among by the villagers in the Kropyvnytsky province, and the recipes reflect the most common local cooking practices in the 20th century.
Some recipes are phrased in the original language which includes the local vernacular, and this could be of the most interest to the cultural anthropologists, specialists in folklore, and language experts. The book is illustrated with real life photos by the project photographers. The dishes and recipes are classified according to themes. The book is the first investigation into the history of food in the Kropyvnytsky district and culinary practices which best represent the region. The book will be of the most interest to the national and local historians, cultural anthropologists, residents of the Kropyvnytsky region, professional chefs, and anyone interested in the local histories, local cooking traditions, and food history.
